SEEKERS
In early 2025, Larchmont Avenue Church launched a new speaker series called SEEKERS. At a monthly gathering in Russell Hall (typically at 7 pm on a Thursday evening), an expert will speak on an issue of interest and relevance to our community, followed by an informal time for questions and reflection facilitated by Rev. Bynum. Following this pattern, SEEKERS will explore contemporary topics, help attendees discover new paths to health and wholeness, and connect us as neighbors in valuable conversations that serve our entire community. Bring your family… bring your friends… all are welcome! While prior registrations help us plan (see below), they are not required.
JANUARY 15, 2026 @ 7:30 PM
We are thrilled and honored to feature Rabbi Jeffrey Sirkman from the Larchmont Temple to kick off our 2026 SEEKERS series: “Village Voices: Interfaith Cooperation in the Larchmont Community.” Rabbi Sirkman, an influential voice in our community for 38 years and a long-standing passionate advocate for interfaith dialogue and cooperation, will bring his personal experiences and perspectives to tell a compelling story of how local houses of worship have come together to deepen faith and strengthen our community.
About Rabbi Sirkman Rabbi Sirkman was ordained by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1987. He received his B.A. in Religion with a concentration in Judaic Studies and a minor in Christianity and his M.A. in Theology, working under the guidance of Prof. Elie Wiesel at Boston University. Arriving at Larchmont Temple some 37 years ago as Education Director/ Assistant Rabbi, he was instrumental in creating a vibrant and dynamic program for nursery through college-age children. As Senior Rabbi of Larchmont Temple since 1994, Rabbi Sirkman – in partnership with the spiritual leadership of the Temple – has helped to create a covenant of congregational life, fostering personal Jewish commitment on the part of every member/household through an ever-developing relationship with Torah (Jewish Study), Avodah (Spiritual Search), and Gemilut Hasadim (Deeds of Sacred Kindness). Connecting to congregants by celebrating the gifts each person brings, Rabbi Sirkman fosters a face-to-face faith – building sacred relationships one person at a time. Reaching out to all, affirming that every person who seeks can find a place within the Jewish family. At the core of his leadership, Covenant remains the mission that gives meaning to Temple membership and Jewish life. Rabbi Sirkman cherishes the gift of Torah, whether learning with dozens every Shabbat morning at the Temple’s Chevrah Torah table, or guiding students in the KESHER religious school from their Bar or Bat Mitzvah to post Confirmation. He engages both young and adult learners through a spectrum of scholars and sacred teachers, putting Torah at the center of their lives. Affirming the bond we share with Israel, and the importance of developing a relationship with the Jewish State, he has led hundreds of congregants and their extended families in hands-on, chock-full, inspirational visits to Israel.
Rabbi Sirkman has served the Temple and Jewish community in a number of roles from Chair of the Program Advisory Committee for URJ Eisner Camp, to Admissions Committee of HUC-JIR, to board member on a variety of community organizations. For the past 25 years, he has served as the Rabbi Stephen Wise Visiting Scholar at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, teaching 5th-year rabbinic and cantorial students, the year-long course for senior students in professional development. Rabbi Sirkman lost his wife, Susan z’l, to cancer in 2015. He lives in Larchmont, NY, and is the proud father of their four children – Aaron, Alexander, Gabriel (Chelsea) and Sophie (Tyler). He is also the proud Papa to Gabe’s and Chelsea’s son, Sawyer. Rabbi Sirkman may be reached at the Temple office or through his email at jsirkman@larchmonttemple.org.
