The History of the Larchmont Avenue Church

FOREWORD

To all those persons, who, through unselfish labor and devotion to Christ’s Cause, have made possible The Larchmont Avenue Church as we know it today, we dedicate this 50th Anniversary booklet. To them we owe our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for their dedication, their sacrifices and their Christian love.

Our special thanks go to all the members of The Larchmont Avenue Church Congregation, the many friends in the Larchmont community, the organizations that have used our church facilities, and the churches in the community who through their encouragement and financial support helped build The Larchmont Avenue Church as a religious institution serving the spiritual needs of its own members, friends, and a large segment of the community who look to this Church for spiritual guidance and help.

I should like to express my personal thanks to Leon C. Stowell and his 50th Anniversary Committee who planned the celebration. Also, I wish to express my thanks to Mrs. John D. Holby who wrote this history and to William B. Arthur who wrote the Epilogue.

As we look to the future, let us pray that we may continue to serve Christ’s Cause with an ever increasing devotion. Undoubtedly, there will be many changes in the community and the Church will reflect these changes in its constituency and program. But, the fellowship of Christians will abide and our prayer is that Christ’s Love will always be in our hearts, that His power, His courage, and His wisdom be our own as we seek to fulfill the prayer, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven."
